To be eligible, items must be unused, in their original packaging, and accompanied by proof of purchase.

The blade is fixed inside the frame and the log sits on top of it, so you strike downward with a mallet or small sledge while your hands stay away from the cutting edge. There is no free-swinging blade and no chasing a bouncing log.

It is designed for splitting seasoned firewood rounds into kindling and smaller pieces — the everyday job of feeding a stove or fire pit. Very large or green rounds are best halved with heavier equipment first.

A rubber mallet, club hammer, or small sledge all work well. Strike the top of the log squarely and let the wedge and frame do the guiding.

Very little. Keep it dry when you can, brush off bark and debris, and give the steel an occasional wipe of oil if it lives outside. The wedge holds its working edge through heavy use.
